DuPont™ Building Innovations Achieves "Zero Landfill Status" for Corian®

DuPont™ Building Innovations Achieves "Zero Landfill Status" for Corian®

After a three year "Drive to Zero", DuPont™ have achieved Zero landfill status in its Building Innovations business, reducing 36,740 tons of landfill waste per year down to zero.

This has been achieved by reducing, reusing and recycling manufacturing by-products and waste at manufacturing sites globally.

None of the waste generated by the business from the manufacture of DuPont™ Corian® and other materials is now sent to landfill. Instead, innovative approaches to reusing and recycling mean that the waste is used in a variety of ways:

  • sanding waste from the manufacture of DuPont™ Corian® is used as a filler replacement in concrete;
  • ground up scrap of DuPont™ Corian® sheet is used as recycled content in first grade products;
  • crushed scrap of DuPont™ Corian® is sold for use as road sub-base material and as landscape stone (see photo above - courtesy of DuPont™)
  • shipping pallets are repaired, reused or ground into animal bedding;
  • carrier belt film is melted and used to make adhesives;
  • cafeteria waste is recycled into worm bedding or converted to energy.
The Drive to Zero campaign is unique in that it also covers third-party partner sites as well as any DuPont™ sites. For the full story about the project click here.
