h3. Curly Corian®
The Spiral Elix Vase caught my eye this month as Glacier White Corian® has been formed into a stylish and sophisticated ornamental vase. This coiled creation takes us to Belgium as it is designed by Pol Quadens of Brussels.
With a spherical container as the base for water the Corian® then twists up into a vertical surround which supports the flowers or foliage. Interior designers could match it up to varying colour schemes just by changing the flower varieties. However the vase also looks rather clean and contemporary as a stand-alone decoration.
h3. Fashion fix
It still amazes me that Corian® can be used for jewellery and this collection from Jennifer Merchant Design is absolutely stunning. Rings, pendants, bangles and earrings in differing colours, set with precious stones and sterling silver. Corian® features the look and feel of stone without the added heft. There are also bespoke options available, contact Jennifer on JenMDesigns@hotmail.com that blurs the line between art and fashion'_
h3. Who is the fairest of them all?
Corian® is a familiar bathroom product but not seen as much for tiles and mirror surrounds. Highlighting the flexibility of different applications for Corian® Italian designer Carlo Dal Blanco has applied it to a range called the Warp Collection for the whole bathroom; bathtubs, washbasins, shelves, 3 dimensional tiles, shower trays and taps.
The Warp project is a perfect expression of the language used by Carlo Del Bianco, it blends the contemporary with the past. These three-dimensional elements ‘spring out’ of the wall, warping themselves to emphasize the possibilities and characteristics of this noble material. The distorted effect that gives the project a contemporary feel, contrasted by the reassuringly classical and iconographic language of the diamonded tiles is reminiscent of the past.
h3. Top table
Although tables are a standard piece of furniture, this mix of oak and Corian® is particularly nice for this bespoke piece by Maker The two materials that complement one another create a sturdy but elegant table for private clients in London in a tradition meets contemporary success story. Jonathan Maker designed and made this with Corian® fabrication by Ashley Smith Furniture.
