How Dentists' Surgeries Look in 2013

How Dentists' Surgeries Look in 2013

A recent visit to the British Dental Trade Association (BDTA) Dental Showcase at the NEC in Birmingham gave a fascinating insight into what dentists are looking for in their new surgeries.

There was a real buzz around the Showcase this year compared to my experience of previous years. There were more stands than ever and a lot of effort and resources had been spent by exhibitors making sure that they appealed to those attending.

h3. Functional can still look amazing

One of the main things I noticed was that there is a new emphasis on design in the dental industry. The fact that hygiene is of fundamental importance is a given and that's why solid surface is now the material of both choice and requirement. What seems to have changed is a willingness to use the properties offered by solid surface to create surgeries that have a distinct personality.

In the photograph at the top of this piece, Corian® fabricator Dental Design and Inventions Ltd created a stunning piece of dental furniture entirely out of Clamshell Corian®. To see the worktop seamlessly floating above the cabinetry and combining with the cabinet doors lends an elegance to the design that is not always found in the clinical environment.

Yorkshire based dental equipment supplier DB Dental have also focussed on curves with their Corian® display. This time crisp Glacier White Corian® wraps around the cabinetry to give a sleek and modern look for a surgery.

It's All About The Detail

As well as looking superb, Dental cabinetry need to function well: using Corian® for doors and drawers ensures that they are stain resistant, bacteria resistant, non-porous, easy to clean and durable. With finger details like the one above they also allow for easy opening and closing.
