Young Furniture and Product Designers Turn to Corian® for inspiration

Young Furniture and Product Designers Turn to Corian® for inspiration

One of the best things about Corian® is the way in which designers are constantly coming up with new ways of taking the material and using it in ways that have not been thought of before.

When students get their hands on Corian®, because they do not have so many preconceived ideas about what to use it for, the results can be really exciting.

Rob Barnby of Barnby & Day

A great example of this phenomenon is the work that Rob Barnby did with Corian® whilst studying at Nottingham Trent University.

Exploring the capability of Corian® to be shaped into elegant curves led to the creation of these stunning Corian® wine racks. In Rob's own words the concept for the wine racks was "driven by the opportunity to be unique and functional, whilst aesthetically they strive to enhance the kitchen environment in a charming and entertaining manner."

Having fun with the material does not detract from the primary aim of providing a functional solution. That's the beauty of Corian® - it allows function and form to work in harmony together.

Contour Desk is the shape of things to come

Whilst the wine racks used only Corian®, Rob also identified a specific use for it in his eye-catching Contour desk. The beauty of the desk stems from the unique tapered legs which, in a great piece of innovation, can be rotated, thereby allowing the desk to take on various different set ups and therefore, appearances.

A Glacier White Corian® insert has been used to give a modern twist to the "traditional writing slate". Because Corian® is non-porous and resists stains, pens, pencils and the like can all be wiped off with ease.
